HTC to introduce dual lens camera for 3D picture

Corephotonics is a company which has made a dual-lens camera concept for smartphones (though they do not work for HTC). The main reason why the dual-lens camera is so amazing is the fact that each of the two lenses has a different focal length.
One of the lenses is wide-angle, while the other is at 3x zoom. This allows people to take pictures of distant objects without using digital zoom (which distorts picture quality)
The dual-lens concept also has advantages in video recording as it provides a smoother zoom by using a mix of digital zoom and lens-switching. Another benefit is that low-light performance can be improved by adding separate sensors to each lens. The dedicated software for the dual-lens camera has also been developed by Corephotonics and works in real-time to match corresponding pixels from each lens. The lens then uses scene analysis to recognize which pixel is closer to reality. This produces a clearer image.
The most amazing advantage, though, is the fact that the dual-lens provides a degree of depth analysis much like a 3D image. This provides extra control over images, such as automatically blurring out the background in portrait shots, quicker autofocus and augmented reality..

Colour 3-D printer

Until now, most 3D printers could print in one color only, and some could print in two. That meant designers who used the technology had to print out a model using one solid color and paint over it later.
Not unlike an inkjet printer found in many homes , the new printer uses three base-colors to create all the different colors. According to the company, the three base-materials, VeroCyan, VeroMagenta and VeroYellow – are combined to produce hundreds of vivid colors.

In addition, the material itself, which is a form of plastic, can be combined with another rubber-like material to create models that feel like a real product. Since the printer can use three base-materials at once, it can print a wide array of objects, ranging from sunglasses to 3D-printed shoes.
It is important to state that this printer is not intended for mass-producing items, but to create models. While the 3D printer is already available today, the flexible raw material, used to create the various models, will only be available after March 2014.

save energy

It is becoming a big debate when it comes to preserving energy and finding means of making use of renewable sources of energy. Scientists are working tirelessly to bring better and more enhanced energy alternatives to the world.

Part of the same effort a UK company by the name of Pro-Teq has come up with an idea to save up electricity and has proposed an alternative to street lamps.
The idea is to coat the road with a special kind of coating which absorbs UV light in the day and emits it at night, hence lighting up the road and removing the need for street lamp completely. The coating is proof and is a spray on type available in different colors; blue, red, gold and green.
The method employed is a simple one; the coating is sprayed onto the existing surface followed by the application of an aggregate material. This starry spray will light up the roads with a glowing colour
Pro-Teq is hopeful that this idea will catch on and until a better alternative is made available, this method will suffice for the lighting needed on roads at night. Feasible or not, the end result sure looks marvelous to say the least!

Tivoli Storage Manager

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM or ITSM) is a centralized, policy-based, enterprise class, data backup and recovery package. The software enables the user to insert objects not only via backup, but also through space management and archive tools. It also allows retrieval of the same data via similar restore, recall, and retrieve methods.
This product is part of the IBM TotalStorage suite of products and is unrelated to Tivoli Framework.
The product was known as ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) before its 1999 re-branding, and was originally known as Workstation Data Save Facility (WDSF).

TSM maintains a relational database (limit 534GB through TSM v5.5, 4TB with TSM v6.3.3+) and recovery log (aka transaction log, limit 13 GB through TSM v5.5, 128GB with TSM v6.1+) for logging, configuration, statistical information, and object metadata. v5.5 DB pages are always 4KB, and partitions every 4MB. Single row inserts only. On average, 20GB of space is consumed for every 25 million objects. Shallow directory structures use less TSM DB space than deeper paths. This database may generally be queried via an emulated SQL-98 compliant interface, or through undocumented SHOW, CREATE or DELETE commands.
Actual user data is managed via a cascading hierarchy of storage media (Primary Storage Pools) presented as raw devices (UNIX), filesystem containers (Windows and Linux), streaming tape or optical media. Additionally, emulated tape from a Virtual Tape Library or EMC Centera WORM archival device are supported. Duplicate copies (Backupsets or Copy Storage Pools) of any subset of data may be created on sequential media for redundancy or off-site management.

FastBack Bare Machine Recovery (BMR) :
     ·         You mount volume directly from Tivoli Storage Manager server storage
·         You restore individual files from volume level backup
·         Tivoli Storage Manager 6.2 API is now part of FastBack Mount
·         You do not require FastBack server for File Restore
·         File Restore now has support for Windows and Linux®
·         The backup that you restore from can be a deduplicated Tivoli Storage Manager storage   pool

Design Requirements for Seismic Safety of  Nuclear Power Plant:

Your data is sent from your computer, across the university network to the HFS servers and is then ultimately stored on magnetic tape in an automated (robotic) tape library.

Our servers and tape library are situated in a climate-controlled, secure location

Tivoli Storage Manager is a complete storage management solution that is
designed to use many components to handle individual circumstances and
special needs. As we move forward, we will see that Tivoli Storage Manager is
uniquely designed to provide a compete and full solution. Clearly, no single
